Why to Go to Business School?

April 30th, 2009 · No Comments ·

There are numerous reasons to attend business school. Actually, most students typically fit into one of the next categories:
1. Need an MBA to succeed in a present career.
2. Would like to change careers.
3. Want to get to know more about business.
4. Seeking for “something more” but not sure what that could be, so hope that a business school may help find the answer.

1. Need an MBA to succeed in a present career. This is often encountered by some management consultants and bankers. In case you come from one of the environments that are surrounded by people having MBAs, you will look on the degree as a branding exercise. You are going to enter school knowing this, and graduate it knowing only a little, because of a year of intensive partying.
2. Would like to change careers. An MBA is effective at attaining this goal, but be conscious of the business cycle.Today with several jobs on offer, employers can be choosy, requiring someone having job position and prior experience in the business. Therefore your success at finding careers hinges greatly on the economic state. In good years offers will fall down on your head, so the greatest problem will be to choose between them; it is where the MBA is great for career-changers.
3. Want to get to know more about business. Business schools, as educational institutions, are well-suited to offer an effective place for learning. Here you will be stretched and challenged until you get your limits. Also, you will have access to up-to-date research as well as resources. You will be able to discuss old and new ideas with students and professors, at dinner, after class, plus far into the night.
4. There are many students who do not understand why they are here, do not know what they would like to attending to business school to get the answer to the question that you do not know is a difficult proposition. The try is expensive, life-changing and demanding.
